“The gate is a portrait of man in the eighties. It can also be seen as a self-portrait. The figure is clothd in a medieval way to reinforce a feeling of austerity and “New Dark Ages”. The figure stands in a state of near catatonia. All emotions have been turned inwards – not in meditation but as a form of protection and fear. The man stands in an archway, poised on the brink…”
